EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful psychological treatment used at the Wharfedale Practice to help take distressing memories reduce the emotional impact of those memories and make them seem more like ‘ordinary’ memories.
EMDR was developed originally to treat adults with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) but it is also now used with children and is also used to treat other conditions.
EMDR helps adults reduce vivid, unwanted and repeated recollections of traumatic events from their past. It has been used effectively in helping children who have experienced trauma.
If you live in Leeds or Otley or the surrounding area you can come to therapists at the Wharfedale Psychology & Psychotherapy Practice to access this therapy.
Research shows that EMDR is fast, safe and effective and does not involve the use of drugs. It is frequently used as an adjunct to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
EMDR is a highly specialised method that requires supervised training. Only practicing, registered therapists, psychologists and psychiatrists can receive this specialist training.
It has also been used to help complicated grief reactions, performance anxiety, social anxiety and pain.
If you would like to explore the possibility of using EMDR for emotional issues troubling you and you live in Otley, Ilkley, Leeds or the surrounding area please call us and we can arrange an assessment appointment.
